What is a Granite Floor Coating?
Granite floors or sometimes referred to as “Chip Floors, Simulated Granite floors” are an Epoxy Hybrid Floor System comprised of decorative vinyl acrylic chips broadcasted into a colored epoxy and generally top coated with a protective clear coat to lock down the chips and create a more decorative look and also aid in footing. These are preferred garage floors today because not only do they hide tire marks and dirt far better than any other system, they are the easiest to clean and maintain, and more importantly, they create a natural texture to keep one from falling or slipping on the surface.

When Considering A Solid Color Vs. A Decorative Chip Floor. Please Consider These Few Options Before Making Your Decision.
One most important point to keep in mind, all coatings will telegraph both good and poor concrete conditions. Solid colors floors will show the most imperfections. The chip floors, also referred to as a simulated granite floor will hide more imperfections then a solid color floor. The floor with the greatest ability to hide floor imperfections will be a “ Full broadcast of decorative chips” broadcasted into a floor. These systems hide the most amount of concrete damage or imperfections and divert from improper leveling as well as camouflage dirt and tire markings making it easier to keep clean.
Decorative chip epoxy flooring applications are not installed equally amongst all companies.. Experience plays an important factor in the proper finish of a floor system. 1. The most common systems amongst floor coating contractractor are what are called “The Full Chip Floor System”, also referred to a 100 Percent Decorative Chip Floor / Or the full granite floor.
This 100 percent chip floor system more commonly utilizes the 1/4 inch chip being broadcast into generally a heavy film binder / adhesion coat to the concrete to provide full saturation of chips. This floor tends to be the most durable, industrial and scratch resilient of the floors and the thickest film build while offering the greatest uv protection. Also an excellent choice for outdoor exposure applications. They can be made very smooth, to ultra textured for all purpose footing requirements
Note: This floor system is most preferred when concrete is in average to more poor condition because this system will hide the most concrete imperfections and help bridge larger concrete deviations and hide larger cracks repaired in the concrete surfaces )
2.B The most {Bang for your buck floor system} We call it the
80 Percent Decorative Chip Floor System.
This system utilizes the smaller 1/8 chips with a very high density of chip-fill. We usually say between 80-85% fill, creating both a beautiful look and nice natural texture to footing. These floors are best suited for concrete being in quite good condition, Being minimally porous and gentle cracks. NOTE: One of the best values in the chip floor systems, But its deficit is if you require a coating removal and a new re- Instllation, The full chip floor is better suited and a better value as an 80 percent system after a floor coating removal most always requires and extra prime coat- which involves an extra cost.
